At Jaman we're 100% committed to creating a compelling user experience allowing the users to watch what they want, where they want in High Definition. As you point out this is best achieved through a download (and progressive download makes this even better).

Keep enjoying the movies!
Faisal Galaria
GM Europe, JamanFaisalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04788696235263242973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19197835.post-50495262239569907462007-05-15T11:05:00.000-07:002007-05-15T11:05:00.000-07:001. You hit the ol noggin on the nail, my friend. Thats what L3 is about. I read your blog and don't discount the ad revenue from Australia. This is a global marketplace.Anil Gupte's Video Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10155963964740739695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19197835.post-19100977868546320402007-05-15T08:57:00.000-07:002007-05-15T08:57:00.000-07:00I'd be glad to debate the pluses and minuses of Jo...I'd be glad to debate the pluses and minuses of Joost or Vudu or Veoh or what we are doing at localbroadcast.tv. Maybe online...streamed live...using P2P?

Two points.

1) There are lots of P2P streamers in China redirecting live TV from CCTV etc. to online audiences. Last year during the World Cup, some of them had concurrent audiences of over 100,000. So the technology can work...it does work. I was just talking to one. Only thing they are missing is a business model. Not unique to China or P2P streaming though.

2) There is a crying need for a robust business model for online video. Nothing so far approaches what the big TV broadcasters can deliver today viz. 15 minutes of commercials every hour. Google says they can make it on 15 second prerolls on YouTube. Joost says they only need 1 min of ads an hour. I've run the numbers and they don't look that great. It seems that the only way to bring the advertising revenues from Big TV to online video is to....bring Big TV to the web. That means simulcasting existing programs using either expensive multicasters like Akamai or much cheaper P2P streamers like us.

Downloading movies and shows with technologies like yours or Joost will be great. When it works it will kill Blockbuster and NetFlix. But those companies are much smaller than NBCU and DIS.Phonerangerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04907114979294515070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19197835.post-61336541128228943702007-05-15T01:13:00.000-07:002007-05-15T01:13:00.000-07:00very clear overview and i agree with you about eve...very clear overview and i agree with you about every point.
